Ugandan State Minister Urges Local Leaders to Embrace the Church.

The  State Minister for Relief and Disaster Preparedness in the Ugandan Cabinet and also Member of Parliament for Amuria County, Honourable Musa Echweru, has urged local leaders in Uganda to embrace the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, citing many positive aspects that the Church influence brings along.

While addressing a group of close to 200 leaders at a local hotel in Lira district, in the Eastern part of Uganda, the Honourable Echweru talked at length about his experiences when he once  visited Salt Lake City, Utah, where the Church headquarters are located.

He said the level of courtesy, concern for others, and moral uprightness exhibited by students in Brigham Young University, which is operated by the Church and is one of the largest private universities in the world, compelled him to later send his son to study there.

The Honourable Echweru said that as the Church takes root in Uganda, many social evils such as the rampant consumption of alcohol will be curtailed.

He said that there should not be room for misunderstandings and opposition to the church by other religious sects since they are all children of our Heavenly Father.

He also urged other religious leaders to emulate the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which has principles of respect toward other faiths.

Speaking at the same event, the Leader of the Church who oversees its activities in Uganda, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Burundi and Rwanda among others, described  the Church as one that invests in the spirituality of its members, believes in and supports their communities.

He said everywhere in the world where the Church has been in existence for a while, its members will be found to be top entrepreneurs and  professionals. He said Church members can easily be recognised for thier honesty, integrity, and a willingness to serve. "Our goal and commission is to be of service to our neighbours" he said.
