Saints in Uganda Watch General Conference

Over the weekend of the 25th and 26th of April 2015, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Uganda gathered at their respective meeting houses to watch recorded proceedings of the 185th General Conference that was held in Salt Lake City, Utah the first week of April this year.

Due to the time difference between the U.S. and Uganda, as well as technological limitations, members of the Church throughout Africa anxiously await the arrival of these conference DVD's following the bi-annual conferences and are able to watch a couple of weeks later.

General Conference is a semi-annual gathering of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), held every April and October at the LDS Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.

During each conference, members of the Church gather in a series of two-hour sessions to listen to sermons from church leaders. It consists of six general sessions: One exclusively for male priesthood holders on Saturday evening, and a General Women's Session held a week prior.

The over 35 speakers during the conference each addressed a unique facet of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Being Easter weekend, members were especially urged to think of the great sacrifice that was made by the Saviour to atone for the sins of the world. Other speakers spoke on subjects geared toward strengthening families, being faithful to the commandments of the our Heavenly Father, doing good to others, religious freedom, taking responsibility, forgiveness, being true, resisting temptation and many others.

This was the 185th General Conference of the Church. The next General Conference will be held during the first weekend of October 2015.
