The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga was the Chief Guest.

Hundreds of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and invited guests, gathered for the OPEN HOUSE of the New Chapel that was held on November 2, 2019, in Kansanga, Kampala, Uganda.

During the OPEN HOUSE, members and visitors led by the Stake President, President Frederick M. Kamya, toured the facilities and thereafter held a devotional that was attended by all members and visitors including the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga who was the Chief Guest.

The theme of the OPEN HOUSE was derived from Moroni 10:32 (A scripture in the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ), “Come unto Christ and Be Perfected in him.” Prior to the devotional, the Chief Guest, accompanied by the Stake President, toured the entire premises and, he was not only impressed by the Standards of the Church regarding; Family, Temple and Family History work, but also the emphasis it puts on Children and Youth Programs. The Prime Minister said, “I am very impressed with the way you nurture and instill in the children and Youth, the virtues of honesty and integrity among others.” “The Quality of your Church structures is Top Quality in civil works” the Chief Guest added. The Chief Guest also humorously opinionated, “I believe that Jesus Christ also loves quality.”

In his devotional remarks, the Stake President said, “In this Church we delight in the service of our fellow humans.” “This is evidenced by the kind of service we offer in the Church which is voluntary and none of our Bishops and others leaders are paid.” He added, “We each have a job or business that we do during the week and then after we go ahead and do our church service.” Speaking about some of the vital and capacity building programs that the Church offers, the President Kamya added, “The Church has brought us wonderful programs that enable us to become self-reliant.” “For example, we have the Perpetual Education Fund (PEF), a loan given at no interest to members of the Church who would wish to further their education but lack the means to do so. Other self-reliance programs like the Starting and Growing My Business class, which teaches members and others how to start and/ or Grow their Businesses. Finally, the Brigham Young University-Pathway Worldwide (BYU-PW), a Church University based in the USA, that offers Certificates, Diplomas, and Degrees in the fields of Technology, and Business among others to members and all those who may be interested.”

The Bishop of the Kansanga congregation, Bishop Ronald M. Omuya, spoke of how the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints had become a worldwide Church and enlightened the congregation about the misconception of the general public that this is an American Church. He further taught that, “One of the purposes of our Church attendance is to partake of the sacrament, which represents the emblems of the Atoning Sacrifice of the Savior Jesus Christ that He performed for the salvation of all mankind.”
