Give More Support to Religious Institutions

The Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has challenged the government to give more assistance to religious institutions that are engaged in development projects like the one we are celebrating today. ’We thank you for the efforts you are rendering to shape our communities as a church because you are helping the country have a high morals standing,” said Kadaga.

The speaker made the remarks in a speech presented for her by MP Aruu North Lucy Aciro Otim at the Open House of a new State Centre of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at Kabowa a Kampala suburb on August 25.

Kadaga said that the new stake Centre will not only be used for the spiritual enrichment of the members of the Church and other Ugandans, but also as a source of knowledge and wisdom in other temporal matters such as self-reliance, higher education, among others. “You are moving in the right direction because Uganda is always in need of religious institutions as they are the simplest ways for the unification of all Ugandans. I congratulate you on this great achievement of acquiring the new building to accommodate the new Stake Centre,” The speaker added.

She explained that the church has also started a new education program where people will study online courses from certificate all through to Master’s Degree and Ph.D. level. This is indeed a very welcome development! According to her, the speaker is aware of the numerous assistance, the church has rendered to Uganda through its humanitarian arms, for example: during the LRA/Joseph Kony insurgency in the north, the church made huge donations; and other relief items such as clothing, blankets, tents, cooking utensils, food, etc…. to people in Internally displaced camps; shallow water wells and bore halls, VIP toilets have been constructed, adult literacy Programmes, HIV/Aids awareness campaigns to mention but a few.

The legislator also applauded the church’s efforts in teachings, where moral uprightness is emphasized, together with hard work. This should be the foundation of any society that aspires for the total good of all. The leader of the Stake Centre, Fredrick Kamya who dedicated the premise called on all Ugandans not to shy away from seeking permission to use the facility for events such as weddings because it’s going to bless the lives of every Ugandan.
