Church Women In Kampala Exhibit Products

Women in Kampala who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints under their organisation of “The relief society” have held an exhibition Kampala.

The Relief Society is for women ages 18 and over whose purpose is to provide support for the temporal and spiritual needs of all women in the Church, as well as others who are in need. The Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is one of the largest women’s organizations in the world.

During the exhibition, the women displayed pieces of artefacts and products that they had made themselves which were of economic value.

One of the women, Prosy, exhibited a door mat whichshe said was a customised order, with the name of a European football team etched into it.

In a country where jobs are not easy to come by, the products made by these women have provided them employment.

Prosy says she earns up to 100,000 shillings ($35) from each mat made.

Another woman, Olivia from the Mengo congregation brought with her some Liquid soap, Bar Soap, Shampoo and other related products. She says that she easily competes with other similar products on the market because hers are a little cheaper and people are satisfied with them.

Ssewagudde Veronica from Kabowa Ward who displayed very colourful aprons that she makes was quick to encourage women to wear these when they do kitchen chores. She sells each apron at 5000 Uganda shillings ($2).

Other Items displayed included Clothes, Shoes, and Bags.

All the skills have been obtained through a church program called,  Home, Family, and Personal Enrichment, in which the women meet in locations near them and train each other on various skills.

One of the women says the program has helped put a smile on her face.
