An Evening To Remember 

Uganda Kampala Mission President Speaks To Rotary Club in Kampala

 

On the 24th of May 2018 , the Rotary Club of Kampala met at the downtown Sheraton Hotel, with President Kamya of the Kampala Rotary Club presiding. He is also the stake president of the Kampala North Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He arranged for Uganda Mission President Steven H. Collings to be keynote speaker. He addressed an audience of approximately 72 Rotarians attending from across Uganda. President Collings topic was working to give your life to God instead of working to acquire material possessions.

President Collings being in the business world, expressed when he helped others to succeed is when he found the most joy. He shared with the Rotarians why he walked away from his career to serve a mission and how that decision had blessed his life. He allowed questions and one man asked him to tell them how God had blessed his life, what about the many material things he had been blessed with.

President Collings said he did not want to talk about material things, but instead he asked, “See that pretty lady over there? Pointing to Sister Collings. Who could have more than that? God has blessed me with a wonderful wife, and an amazing family. They are my true joy.” Laughter filled the room and many hearts were touched.

Sister Collings was asked to say a few words and she talked about the example of the Savior serving others, which is what the Rotary Club is all about. Sister Collings talked about following the example of the Savior in serving others, which is what the Rotary Club does. Rotary members combine their distinct skills and expertise to tackle some of the world’s most pressing problems. The meetings bring the community leaders from all cultures and occupations to share their ideas for making the world a better place. Their activities and service projects provide a fun way and means of serving others.

Assistants to the Mission President, Elder Barrington and Elder Colvin, were invited to say a few words. The assistants talked about the Book of Mormon and the Restoration, and they brought Church pamphlets and pass along cards to share with those who were interested. At the end of the meeting President Collings was presented with a certificate in appreciation for spending time with them. There were several people who approached President and Sister Collings and the missionaries wanting to find out more about the Church. Some said that they knew President Kamya was a great man, and respected him very much. Now they understood some of the things he believes, and many wanted to know more. Many wonderful experience were shared and many expressed gratitude.
